The school holidays have seen over 250 young soccer stars participate in the Kelme Street Soccer Tournament, hosted by Football West at Lords Sports Centre in Subiaco.

Street soccer is an exciting form of the game where players earn points for tricks, flicks and step-overs, as well as for goals scored. The result is a high-paced and entertaining style that encourages players to be as creative and as imaginative as they can be.

Players in grades from Under 10s to Under 16s were guided by Football West Youth Officer Mark Lee as they stepped, back-heeled, juggled and jinked their way through the tournament.

Mark said he was impressed with the creativity and skill shown through the whole 3 days of the event, as well as the relaxed atmosphere and fun approach that parents, players and referees helped to create.

"Street soccer allows players to express themselves without pressure from coaches or spectators - it's just a really fun way to play football," Mark said.

"The skill shown by some of these young lads is really good to see, but just as good to see is the enjoyment and freedom the players experience in street soccer."

The next chance to get involved in street soccer will be on the 15th, 16th and 17th of April later this year, once again at Lords - registration forms are available through Football West on 9422 6900.
